Xinghao Liang’s practice originates from painting and extends into installation, moving image, and spatial interventions. Rather than treating painting as an isolated object, he approaches it as a method for thinking through space — a way to construct, fragment, and reorganise environments.
His work often begins with specific architectural or situational contexts. Through layered images, subtle objects, light, and spatial displacement, Liang creates environments that oscillate between familiarity and disorientation. These constructed spaces function as sites where perception becomes unstable, allowing latent narratives and embodied experiences to surface.
Liang is interested in the tension between the corporeal, the historical, and the mechanical. By introducing internal contradictions within his works — between surface and structure, stillness and movement, image and space — he remains open to produce experiences that resist fixed interpretation. The works do not aim to illustrate narratives but to stage conditions in which meaning remains provisional and open-ended.
